Bungling Burglar Loses Gift Haul; Dad's Stolen Birthday Presents Go Missing

HE stole a stash of presents on his daughter's birthday.

But drunken dad Anthony Hall's plan was foiled when the goodies he took disappeared from his secret hideaway.

The unemployed dad rifled through a crate of parcels at a Royal Mail depot stealing books and toys.

But the bungling burglar failed to find the perfect hiding place for his haul. And the goodies vanished when he left them in a nature reserve in Gosforth, Newcastle, overnight.

And the empty-handed thief was caught when police found blood from a cut he suffered while rifling among the packages.

Hall, of Agnes Maria Street, in Coxlodge, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to the theft from the Royal Mail sorting office in Gosforth when he appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court.

The court heard how the 37- year-old raided the compound, sometime between August 2 and August 5.

Sarah Turner, prosecuting, said: "On Tuesday, August 5, the manager at the Royal Mail sorting office was informed by a member of staff that a container of parcels had been interfered with. …
