THEY sing the words to a tale as old as time but has Disney's enchanting romantic story of Beauty and the Beast stood the test of time as it takes up residency at the Sunderland Empire Theatre this week?

Having previously been captivated by the production of this Disney classic on Broadway a few years ago I was anxious to see if it could be pulled off on a smaller scale.

The superb cast certainly didn't disappoint, with a show-stopping performance of elegance and musicality to rival that of any Broadway production.

The Empire is the perfect setting for this performance as it makes you feel part of the show, sitting in grandness like you are actually in one of the castle's wings - though certainly not the forbidden west wing.

Leads Matthew Cammelle (Beast) and Ashley Oliver (Belle) deliver beautiful performances and capture the emotions of the love story between the title characters brilliantly.

Ben Stock (Lumiere) and Ashley Knight (Cogsworth) however steal the show with their amazingly hilarious double act bouncing off each other, much to the audience's amusement throughout. …
