Tayls: We Have Still Got a Long Way to Go

NEWCASTLE United defender Steven Taylor has revealed that he and his England Under-21 team-mates still have so much to play for, despite last night's 3-2 win in Cardiff against their Welsh counterparts.

The former Monkseaton High School pupil skippered the England young guns to victory at Ninian Park in front of watching interim Toon boss Joe Kinnear, but was far from happy with his side's performance in the first leg of their crucial European Championship qualifier.

The England Under-21 side have one foot in the Euro finals in Sweden next summer, but Taylor is taking nothing for granted.

England triumphed 3-2 with goals from Middlesbrough duo David Wheater and Adam Johnson, before Gabriel Abgonlahor's clincher secured victory against the plucky Welsh ahead of next Tuesday's second leg at Villa Park.

Taylor told the Chronicle: "This is just half-time and there is so much to play for.

"It would be a great honour to captain the team in next summer's Euro finals. …
