WHITLEY Warriors coach Simon Leach hailed his side's "best performance of the season so far" after they beat Solway Sharks 6-3 in the Northern League at Hillheads last night.

"Everyone on the team contributed tonight and that's what we need every game, because if we can play like this every week the Warriors are going to be a force to be reckoned with this season," he said.

It was a game that had a little of everything, with quality goals, excellent netminding and even the occasional confrontation between opposing players.

"We showed that we can stick up for each other and did what we needed to do to win the points," added Leach.

"Prior to this game, we hadn't created enough chances and scored enough goals in games, but I promised the lads some extra crates of beer after the game if we scored six goals.

"So maybe the season is going to cost me a few bob if we keep this up!"

Although the Warriors opened their Northern League account with the win over Solway, they had gone down 3-0 away to defending champions Fife Flyers the night before. …
