A FESTIVAL to promote green living will be held on Tyneside.

The first Greener Gosforth show aims to show how people living in the area can help the environment, save money and make the Newcastle suburb a nicer place in which to live.

On the day there will be demonstrations of green goods, freebies, a facepainter and a charity raffle to raise money for the Northumberland Wildlife Trust.

There will be more than 20 local companies offering green products and services from recycling, composting and saving energy to transport, real nappies and organic produce and gifts.

The festival, being held on October 25 in the Trinity Centre, has been organised by husband and wife team Vicki and Richard Stone, who live in Gosforth and run events company Vicki Stone Marketing.

Vicki, 33, said: "After doing research we found that so many people want to become greener, but many don't know where to start. We thought by getting as many of the green companies and services under one roof at such an event, we can help.

"Newcastle City Council's sustainable transport team has kindly agreed to support the show, which has enabled us to use an excellent venue which is right in the heart of Gosforth on the High Street."

Richard added: "We have had lots of interest in the show so far, which has led to us creating a forum on our Greener Gosforth website, so people can post their top tips and ask questions. We hope to keep the website forum running as long as we can after the show to help the local community with green issues."

The festival will be free to get in and the raffle, in aid of the Gosforth-based charity Northumberland Wildlife Trust, will give visitors the chance to win prizes donated by the exhibitors and local Gosforth businesses.

Exhibitors include Newcastle City Council's Travel Plan Office and Neighbourhood Services, About my area, Alternative Stores, ARGO, the Energy Saving Trust, Essentially Yours, Friends of the Earth, George Payne Butchers, Grow Up Green, M Steel Cycles, the National Trust, Nexus, Northern Kites, Northumberland Wildlife Trust, Recyke-Y-Bike, River Swale Organic Vegatables, Treat Therapy, Tyne Wines, Wild & Green Deli, WRAP and Zen Shiatsu. …
