3. BRONZE JOANNE JACKSON SWIMMING, WOMENS 400M FREESTYLE The 21-year-old came in behind Adlington and Hoffto claim the bronze medal. After turning fourth at the halfway point, she had the strength to put in a late surge to edge out Frances Coralie Balmy. I didnt really know what to expect because it was a hard swim to get into the final, and to win a medal at the Olympics is overwhelming Im just so pleased, said Jackson.

SILVER DAVID FLORENCE CANOEING, MENS SLALOM The Scot started the day in fourth place but he put in a perfect final run, clocking 178.61secs to put him ahead of Polands Krzystof Bieryt and Czech Stanislav Jezek to claim Britains first silver in Beijing. The 26-year-old from Aberdeen said: I am absolutely delighted that I put in a good final run in the pressure of a big final. It is the most exciting time to do it.
