After what has been a successful but, at times, frustrating season for the Gators, it finally all came together Oct. 11 in The Swamp, and the Bayou Bengals of Lousiana State University were the unfortunate victims.

The offense was clicking on all cylinders with a balanced rushing and passing attack, involving all of our weapons. The defense was stifling for most of the night and was opportunistic in scoring a touchdown on a 52-yard interception return by Brandon Spikes. The special teams corralled the dangerous return specialist Trindon Holiday and Jonathan Phillips remained perfect on field goal attempts this season. Most importantly, the Gators played four solid quarters of football with only a slight let up just before and just after the intermission.

In the end, the Gators crushed the Tigers 51-21. It is hard to pinpoint a "game-winning drive" in a 30-point blowout, but as a Gator fan, you had to love the drive that Tim Tebow orchestrated to answer the 14 points that LSU scored at the end of the first half and the drive to begin the second half. If ever we needed a drive to take back the momentum, that was it, and the Gators answered the call with a scoring drive that took back the momentum once and for all.

Thanks to the more-than-convincing win Oct. 11 and a few other losses in the Top 5, the Gators once again control their own destiny. It is indeed great to be a Florida Gator.

We head into a bye this week to get healthy before the home stretch that includes a Kentucky team which has played surprisingly well on defense, the game of the year against Georgia in Jacksonville, and then finishing up with always-tough Vanderbilt, an inconsistent South Carolina team, a bit of a breather against The Citadel, and then the potential spoiler in Florida State. …
