ATHENS, Ga. - Vance Cuff says he's gotten more snaps in the secondary in a game before in his Georgia career, but not more significant snaps.

With Georgia holding a seven-point lead over Vanderbilt in the second half Saturday, the sophomore defensive back played extensively in the nickel package in the Bulldogs' 24-14 victory.

"Early on during the season, I got a little taste, but I never really had a taste of SEC play," Cuff said. "That was pretty big for me. I was excited."

Except that he wasn't too excited about a third-quarter pass he dropped that would have been his first interception as a Bulldog.

"I was in a perfect position to come through for Georgia and make an interception and touchdown, but the pick hit me right in the chest," Cuff said.

Defensive coordinator Willie Martinez replaced junior Bryan Evans with Cuff after Vanderbilt scored both of its touchdowns on Jamie Graham catches of 18 and 8 yards, beating Evans.

"Coach Martinez has been really wanting to play Cuff more and play [Brandon] Boykin more because they are high-energy guys that have got ability," Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said.

Cuff said he isn't sure if he'll move ahead of Evans on the depth chart.

"To say that's going to become a mainstay, it will be premature to say right now," Richt said.

LSU WR COMMITMENT SWITCHES TO GEORGIA

Against the backdrop of this week's Georgia-LSU game comes the switch of Glades Central wide receiver Rantavious Wooten.

Wooten backed off an August verbal commitment to LSU and became a Georgia commitment after taking a weekend visit to Athens, according to his coach, Jessie Hester.

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound Wooten is the first receiver in Georgia's 2009 recruiting class and the 16th commitment overall.
