GET OUT THERE AND HAUNT SOMETHING
Throw a sheet over your head and hit the streets for some free candy - it's Halloween! But be sure to watch out for little trick-or-treaters if you're on the road this evening. If you're looking for a real scare, head out to a haunted house. You'll find them at Adventure Landing in Jacksonville Beach, Keystone Airpark in Keystone Heights, the Clay County Fairgrounds in Green Cove Springs and the Food Lion Plaza in St. Augustine.
MONDAY AND THURSDAY
SALUTE TO A MASTER PLAYWRIGHT
UNF is celebrating the works of Samuel Beckett this week with a concert and a performance of one of his lesser-known plays. At 7:30 p.m. Monday, violinist Tom Chiu will conduct a band of faculty and students in Morton Feldman's composition For Samuel Beckett. It's free at UNF's Robinson Theater. At 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Robinson, Beckett's protege Rick Cluchey will perform Krapp's Last Tape, then answer questions afterward. $10. (904) 620-2878.
WHO YOU CALLING CHOWDERHEAD?
The Great Chowder Debate would be a great name for a heavy metal band. But it's an even better name for a chowder cook-off. Conch House Marina in St. Augustine is looking for the perfect Minorcan chowder - a savory stew of clams, tomatoes and datil peppers - starting at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Samples are 50 cents each, and it benefits the Shriners Hospitals for Children. (904) 829-8646.
