THE search is on to find the best property projects in the North East as the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) North East Renaissance Awards 2009 are open for entries.

Property projects from right across the region are encouraged to enter the prestigious North East awards, which are highly regarded as the property Oscars of the built and natural environment.

RICS Regional Chairman Michael Henning, a North East-based chartered surveyor with Summers Inman, explained: "The RICS awards are the highlight of the construction industry's calendar. They're open to all - not just RICS members. During the judging process, we look at projects of all sizes - multi-million-pound regeneration schemes, landscaping projects, small-scale building extensions - and reward them on their design and careful execution.

"In the current climate, it's more important than ever that businesses arm themselves with tools that keep them ahead of the competition.

Receiving awards such as this, in front of industry peers and potential clients, is a coveted accolade and provides a business advantage during what are increasingly turbulent times for the industr y."

With eight categories to choose from, the RICS North East Renaissance Awards traditionally attract entries from talented property developers, civil engineers, planners, architects and, of course, surveyors who want to promote their high profile projects and clients.

Categories include: building conservation, community benefit, sustainability, regeneration, residential, commercial, design and innovation, and tourism and leisure.

Regional winners in the first four categories automatically go on to be considered for national awards.

This year, Northumbria University's City Campus East building was highly commended at the international level of the RICS Awards, following its win at the North East Renaissance awards ceremony where it scooped both the Sustainability award and the overall accolade of Project of the Year. …
