Builders Confident about Their Unique Apartments; in Association with DOVE BUILDING MATERIALS Construction

A BUILDING firm in Middlesbrough is facing the economic slowdown with confidence as it begins work on a pounds 1.6m housing contract in County Durham.

Maineside Developments is building St Andrews House, a three storey block of 14 apartments in Spennymoor, which will include the biggest units it has built in its 10-year history.

The firm, based in Riverside Park, is due to complete the project at St Andrews Lane early next year and says it is also in negotiations with a number of parties to land further work as it looks to strengthen its position and maintain its turnover.

It recently completed a pounds 2.4m project to redevelop a series of Grade II listed houses near Grange Road, Darlington, which also included the construction of nine apartments.

The firm, which employs 30 staff, has also completed a number of projects for Coca-Cola, including new office and factory space in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, and Sidcup, Greater London.

Managing director Dave Muir said: "There's still work available in the North East and elsewhere and we are confident that we can secure new contracts well into next year. …
