Three into One Does Go. Triple Whammy Mima Exhibitions Some Pieces Are Making Their Debut in Middlesbrough Today

IT'S all change at mima ... the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art is launching its final exhibition series of the year today.

The wraps have come off a trio of new shows which include a number of pieces making their premiere in Middlesbrough.

Downstairs visitors can see You in between by ANDERS RUHWALD.

The Middlesbrough exhibition is the Danish artist's most significant solo show to date. Plus many of his sculptural forms have been made especially for Middlesbrough.

Galleries in mima have been transformed with walls of gold, ribbon curtains and vibrant orange carpet to showcase the work - creating an exciting world of colour, texture and form.

Pieces in the show have a sense of domestic familiarity about them - although their specific function remains uncertain.

"It's about objects and how we relate to them," explains Anders.

"Some of the exhibition has been made for this Middlesbrough show. I love the gallery space here at mima, it's a beautiful place."

Up on the first floor you can see the first major solo exhibition by KATY MORAN, who is rapidly becoming one of the most acclaimed painters of her generation.

Originally from Manchester and now based in London, her paintings are composed of a rich palette of contours and form that chart a careful line between representation and abstraction. Her unplanned or improvised mark-making create painting that is full of life and energy.

"It's a real privilege to have Katy's work on show here," says Gavin Delahunty, curator of fine art at mima. "It's a collection of her best work from 2005 onwards."

A year of planning has brought together pieces from private collections around the world - including New York and Switzerland. …
