Innovative House Scheme Will Be Test Case for New Guidance

ASTUNNING new country house planned for a site near Rothbury in Northumberland is set to act as a test case for the new PPS7 planning guidance in the North East.

Architects Reid Jubb Brown have put forward plans to Alnwick District Council for the house at Ghyllheugh near Rothbury after three years of painstaking preparation. The application has been sent to Alnwick and CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) for consultation on the proposal.

PPS7 is a special kind of application, which encourages the exceptional, innovative, quality design of residential properties in rural areas.

Kevin Brown, the architect responsible for "Lake House", as the property has come to be known, said: "This has been one of the most exciting and challenging commissions of my career.

The brief from the client demanded an innovative new home incorporating the very latest in new, sustainable technologies and a design that is both bold and exciting, yet functional and liveable. …
