Thugs Face Jail over Railway Robbery Spree

A GANG who terrorised and robbed rail passengers across London during an eight-month period were today facing jail.

The four thugs targeted men, women and children on the Tube and overland services, threatening them with violence and stealing cash, jewellery and mobile phones.

On some occasions, the gang would commit several robberies on the same day. Their youngest victim was a 15-year-old girl.

Melvyn Gay, 27, and Sheldon Williams, Douglas Lawrence and Aaron Flemming, all 20, carried out attacks at stations including Liverpool Street, Fairlop Waters, Walthamstow Central, Seven Sisters, Stoke Newington, and Loughton between April and November last year.

Southwark crown court heard that on one occasion, in April last year, they carried out three robberies on the same day.

On a separate occasion, the group threatened to "smash" a teenage boy in the face with a bottle if he did not give them his phone. …
