A memorial service to honor pets who have died, as well as pay tribute to the canine heroes of the military and local law enforcement, will be at 6 p.m. Saturday outside the Jacksonville Pet Funeral Home and Pet Crematory, 1815 Corporate Square Blvd., south off Atlantic Boulevard just west of Southside Boulevard.

"This is to enable people who have lost pets to be part of a remembrance service and to bring their personal ornament to hang on our Tree of Memories," said Jimmy Hughey, owner of the funeral home and crematory.

The event also will honor the K-9 law enforcement officers of the Jacksonville and St. Johns County sheriff's offices, the Jacksonville Beach Police Department and the Navy's K-9 personnel, Hughey said.

A military honor guard will recognize all fallen law enforcement and military canine units who died in the line of duty with full military honors, including the firing of three rifle volleys by seven riflemen.

Pick your own at the annual Grove House Orange Festival, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at its orange grove at 2940 Claire Lane, off San Jose Boulevard.

The annual fundraiser lets visitors pick baskets of oranges from the Mandarin grove's trees for $25 a basket, with the proceeds given to Grove House Supportive Services, which helps adults with developmental and acquired disabilities. Games and rides for children, art vendors, entertainment, food and orange-themed crafts are also part of the annual event. …
