Government Tips Its Cap to Water Taste System

ADESIGN company has invented a new screw cap that allows consumers to choose the flavour of their bottled water says it could revolutionise the soft drinks market.

Gateshead-based Mixicap has been developing the product over the last three years and has now secured Government support through the UK Trade and Investment Research and Development programme to help speed up its design and production.

The drinks system will be primarily targeted at the water market and will allow people to add flavourings, sugar and even vitamins and minerals, at the push of a button. The cap, which is planned to go to market by 2010, will house the additives in both a liquid and soluble form and will even allow consumers to choose how strong they want the taste to be.

Inventor and company managing director Amrik Pannu believes the cap will provide a fresher alternative to traditional flavoured water and also believes the caps will prove popular with diabetics as they will help them to regulate their sugar intake. …
