VULNERABLE and low income householders in Redcar who missed out on free home energy upgrades first time round will get another chance.

GoWarm ran from 2002 to improve insulation and heating for home-owners and now officers are targeting 30,000 more homes.

They have already begun knocking on doors in the Kirkleatham, Zetland and Dormanstown areas and will target South Bank, Ormesby and Brotton in the New Year.

Many people will be eligible for free or heavily-discounted improvements, depending on their income and home energy needs.

Those who pay will see a return within a few months as bills drop.

But housing officials have warned people will miss out if they don't take advantage, following poor take-up for a similar scheme in 2005.

Redcar and Cleveland cabinet member for housing and neighbourhood renewal Lynn Pallister said officers who door-knocked in the Brotton Brickyards area in 2005 to assess the need for upgrades to pre-1900s properties were disappointed by the response. …
