Elderly Brutally Robbed; Man, 83, Kicked in Face at Door

AN elderly man was punched and kicked in the face and he and his wife were threatened with a knife at their Gateshead home.

Two young men confronted the couple - the husband 83 and his 69-year-old wife - at the door of their house in Wordsworth Street, in Old Fold, just after 5pm on Tuesday.

One of the men, concealing his face with a scarf and brandishing a knife, barged into the house.

He punched the husband to the ground and kicked him in the face, demanded cash and threatened the couple with a knife.

The man then left empty-handed, having been unable to find any money in the house.

Throughout the incident, the second man remained at the front door and the woman told police he looked ashamed and refused to come into the house.

Det Insp Derek Barrett, of Gateshead Area Command, said: "These are elderly, vulnerable residents who have been the victims of a vicious and cowardly attack.

"Both of them are understandably shocked and traumatised by what has happened to them. …
