Once again, the BCS - Beauty Contest Series - has worked to perfection.

Just ask Texas, Utah, Boise State, USC and old JoPa at Penn State, who was coaching the Nittany Lions when football was played with leather helmets and the beauty contest was on the sideline (rah rah ree, kick 'em in the knee, rah, rah, rass, kick 'em in the other knee!)

Well, on to football. Congrats, Eric. I know you had fun in Atlanta, that is a great experience just being there, but when your team wins, it is a really special day. Once again, I watched the big games with my dad from Nassau General. He had a little relapse and has a long, slow road to recovery. We are both Dawgs as you know, but mom is a Gator, so at least one person in the house has their team going to the big dance.

On Jan. 8, we'll have something orange on with our everyday red and black. But on Jan. 1, we will be sporting only red and black.

The Dawgs have been selected to play in the Capital One Bowl against the Michigan State Spartans. The Dawgs last played in the Capital One Bowl in 2004 and won 34-27 in OT, over Purdue (Dawg trivia: After the Dawg win in 2004, how many wins does the SEC have over the Big 10? Answer: 0). This SEC vs. Big 10 matchup will feature Knowshon Moreno and Javon Rinkier, two of the three finalists for the Doak Walker award, which is given to the nation's top running back.

The only other time the Dawgs have faced the Spartans was on New Years Day in 1989 in the Gator Bowl, when the Dawgs gave Vince Dooley a 34-27 win in the final game of his coaching career.
