BLAKELAW Crofters Lodge are making steady progress towards the top of Division Two.

With three games in hand on leaders Red Star Benwell, Crofters won a sevengoal clash at home to second-placed Walker Central Reserves.

Steve Matthews and Lee Garwood netted twice for Blakelaw, with the Walker goals from John Campbell, Robert Mills and Darren Leggitt.

The only other league game to beat the weather saw Newcastle Diggers beat Newcastle JCB Eindhoven 4-1.

Two Wayne Stephenson strikes, one from Mark Turnbull and an own goal saw Diggers home, with the Eindhoven consolation from Ricky Shepherd.

In the Northumberland Minor Cup, Wallsend Town Reserves went out to former Tyneside Amateur League side Forest Hall 4-2.

Andy Taylor and Phil Doolan scored for Wallsend.

In the all-league tie, Newcastle RVI Lochside from Division Two overcame Division One outfit West Jesmond 4-2.
