Group Helps Needy Children

A CHARITY which helps needy children in the world's war, famine and poverty hotspots has been given a boost by a group of men with learning disabilities in Northumberland.

The 12 men are part of a work placement programme at Azure Printing in Pegswood near Morpeth, which helps them develop practical skills and improve their literacy and numeracy.

Over the past few months they have produced special writing notepads to send to the international Shoebox Appeal, which helps children around the world who have been the victims of war, poverty, famine, disease and natural disaster.

Eight boxes of notepads, all of which were designed and made by the group, have been given to the appeal, and the men have visited a local collection point to help pack them alongside donations from other organisations.

Motivated by the experience, the group has now also created a range of hand-crafted Christmas decorations, including baubles, wreaths and Christmas trees, which are being sold at Azure Printing. …
