LITTLE Ryan Dunbar was a present sent from heaven when he was born 10 days early on Christmas Day last year.

And his mum believed it was her fiance Shane Coates, who died three months earlier, who made it happen.

Today Cally Dunbar cuddles her baby and gets ready to celebrate his first birthday tomorrow.

But there will be mixed emotions when they open Ryan's presents as his daddy will not be there to share the moment.

Cally faced life without her future husband when he died of asthma. Ryan was due to be born on January 4 but Christmas Day brought a special turn of events when he arrived early.

The couple's perfect life was complete when they discovered they were having a baby. Cally's 20- week scan showed it was a little boy and Shane chose the name Ryan.

"I couldn't have wished for a better Christmas present. Ryan arrived just before Christmas dinner and it was Shane's doing. I know Ryan was my Christmas present from Shane. I know he made this happen," said Cally, of Lowbiggin, Newbiggin Hall, Newcastle.

"It's a year since Ryan was born and Shane will be so proud of his son. He is beautiful and has his dad's personality. Ryan is always giggling and laughing."

Shane suffered from asthma since his days at Astley High School in Seaton Delaval.

The 21-year-old loved football and had previously played for a number of pub teams and, up until March last year, helped coach Wideopen Juniors.

Shane set up a five-a-side team with his workmates at Hodgson Mazda on the Silverlink, North Tyneside.

But only minutes into their first friendly game, he collapsed from an asthma attack.

A colleague tried desperately to resuscitate him and an ambulance took him to Newcastle General Hospital, where he was put in intensive care.

But after three days, on September 28 last year, he died from brain damage caused by a lack of oxygen. …
