Fashion: Start the New Year in Style

Article excerpt

NEW Year resolutions are made to be broken...

unless they're of the fashion variety. Who can resist the self-made promise of wearing more high heels, investing in statement pieces or donning sequins in the daytime?

Our style experts and celebrities reveal their fashionable plans for 2009 as well as their predictions for what we should all be wearing next season.

Kelly Rowland, singer and face of Disaronno Cocktail Chic

2009 FASHION FUTURE?

"I saw the most beautiful dresses at next season's Roberto Cavalli, they were long and floaty and there was a lot of back on display. Colours were really summery like yellows, pinks and oranges.

Black is great and easy but colour isn't always that easy to pull off - when you get it right, though, it can pop."

2008 STYLE BLUNDER?

"I went into Topshop and went crazy! I tried on this really beautiful caramel sweater with buttons but you know when something looks better on the hanger?

"That's taught me a lesson about trying stuff on before buying."

NEW YEAR STYLE RESOLUTION?

"Recycling. I want to recreate outfits using what is already in my closet - that's my new thing. I feel like I have so many clothes that I'm just not wearing."

MUST-HAVE PIECE?

"Leggings. You can wear them with anything and they update any look - dresses, skirts, shorts - the possibilities are endless."

Nicky Hambleton-Jones, Freemans style consultant

2009 FASHION FUTURE?

"There are some really strong colours coming through for spring/summer like orange and fuchsia - even clashed together. There's always a floral element in spring but this year it's quite bright rather than girly and pretty."

2008 STYLE BLUNDER?

"An extravagant purchase of some Stella McCartney shoes. They cost me a fortune and they're fabulous but they just look frumpy on my feet so I've never worn them."

NEW YEAR STYLE RESOLUTION?

"I get quite glammed up when I'm filming but if I'm working from home, I live in jeans and polo necks, so I'd like to dress up irrespective of where I'm going. There's something nice about making an effort every day."
