I had always assumed that witch trials were a thing of the distant past, a form of mass hysteria that gripped people who didn't know better. Apparently, according to our resident expert on everything Tony Robinson the phenomenon raised its ugly head as recently as 1941. Helen Duncan was a psychic and she claimed to see lots of things which were actually happening but she wasn't supposed to know about. Hence her arrest under the 1735 Witchcraft Act.
