Canine Pals Together in New Home; A Middleburg Woman Took Them in after Their Owner Died Last Week

It didn't take long for Linky and Dillon to get comfortable.

They'd been inside their new home in Middleburg for about 30 minutes and, already, the two 10-year-old dogs owned the joint.

"Dillon's sitting in the chair right now, waiting for me to sit down with him," Jody Kinney said in a phone interview, shortly after returning home with the two dogs she adopted Friday morning.

A few minutes later, she had another update: Linky's asleep; Dillon's still waiting for her.

It's a second chance for Linky, a Chihuahua, and his Dachshund pal, Dillon.

Their former owner, Joseph Derrick, was hit by a car and killed last week while trying to cross Timuquana Road.

The dogs were taken to a shelter Monday and word quickly spread on the Internet, trying to find someone who'd give the pets a home.

The city saw the obvious bond between the two and sought a home that would keep them together, said Scott Trebatoski, the city's director of Animal Care and Control. …
