A RESCUE package has been drawn up to bail out a vital part of cinematic heritage on Teesside.

The committee of the Langbaurgh Theatre Organ Society will now be able to put on another season of concerts on their Mighty Wurlitzer.

Last autumn, honorary secretary Trevor Bunce feared the 2008 shows would be the last.

The former truck driver said: "We were worried we'd have to cancel next year because our volunteer numbers are falling, but we've got some of our members to agree to give a little more time to helping maintain the organ."

In addition, Redcar and Cleveland Council has stepped in to offer advice and information about how the society can maximise concert attendance.

Grandad-of-five Trevor said: "The good news is we'll be able to keep going, but we still need more new members.

"A lot of our people are senior citizens and can sometimes find it difficult to come and help out as much as they'd like.

"A few younger people would be very welcome - they won't have been to the cinema and heard a Wurlitzer, but it is part of our cultural heritage. …
