A parade celebrating the Camden County High School football team's state AAAAA championship will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in Kingsland.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Boone Ave and U.S. 17. and end on Hilton Avenue near the old post office.

Tonya Rosado, director of the Kingsland Convention and Visitors Bureau, said more than 50 applications have been requested for participation in the parade, which will include floats, cheerleaders and the football team.

University of Georgia history professor and author James C. Cobb will speak at 3 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Coastal Georgia Historical Society's annual membership meeting at the A.W. Jones Heritage Center beside the St. Simons Island lighthouse.

Cobb's Georgia Odyssey surveys the state's history from its beginnings as a European colony to a 21st Century hotbed of international business. The book covers the Jim Crow era, the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta and Georgia's transition from a linchpin of the Democratic South to its current domination by the Republican Party.

A Georgia native, Cobb is the B. Phinizy Spalding Distinguished Professor of History at the University of Georgia. His published writings include Redefining Southern Culture and The Brown Decision, Jim Crow, and Southern Identity, Away Down South and The Most Southern Place on Earth: The Mississippi Delta and the Roots of Regional Identity. …
