IT'S a new season and time for a fresh new look. The sales are waning and the stores are full of leftover stock, but don't despair as designers and retailers have been announcing their new season lines in abundance this month.

Taking influence from the catwalks, one key trend this summer is the preppy look. Think navy Oxford blazers worn with crisp cotton striped shirts and chinos, or alternatively wear with polo tops and shorts for a more casual look.

Blazers were everywhere on the catwalks, particularly at Giorgio Armani, Dolce and Gabbana and Bottega Veneta.

Moschino teamed a navy blazer sporting white piping on the lapels with checked trousers and a polo shirt.

New & Lingwood is a great place to start on the high street.

Their attire has been confined to London's bespoke tailoring district, but this year they have designed their first lifestyle range exclusively for House of Fraser. Mixing tradition with a quirky sense of style, their collection includes summer taped blazers, Etonian stripe shirting and frog print silk ties.

D&G is doing the preppy look but adding their usual dose of glamour to the mix. They have brought out a navy satin blazer with pink piping that looks fantastic teamed with pink tailored shorts by Polo Ralph Lauren.

Debenhams has branded the preppy look Geek Chic and brightened things up a bit with primary reds, yellows and blues.

Colours to be seen in include pastel blues, every shade of grey and monochrome. White linen and cotton suits will be big for summer, as seen at Calvin Klein, Gucci and Dolce and Gabbana, and greys teamed with subtle hues of blue, as portrayed by Burberry, will be filtering through to the ready-to-wear collections.

J by Jasper Conran, at Debenham, has sleek grey suiting worn with red and blue school ties, grey polo tops with pockets and silk dress scarves to complement the look and Jaeger is mixing it's grey twill suiting with vibrant blue pullovers. …
