Ricky Has Sympathy for Harry's Stance

RICKY Sbragia feels sympathy for his Tottenham Hotspur counterpart Harry Redknapp as Sunderland's manager prepares to field a weakened team of his own today.

Redknapp has back-tracked after being criticised for initially saying he planned to field his 'weakest possible' side against Manchester United in the FA Cup tonight. The Carling Cup holders were taken to extra-time on a heavy Burnley pitch on Wednesday, picking up fresh injuries on the way, and entertain Stoke City in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Redknapp last night reversed his stance and insisted he would field his strongest available side - but Sbragia can relate to his White Hart Lane counterpart's dilemma. Concerns about their mounting injury list and the games to come are likely to lead to rare run-outs for some Black Cats players at home to Blackburn Rovers.

"I sympathise with Harry Redknapp," said Sbragia. "He has had a tough game the other night which went into extra time and it is the demands on players. …
