THE OWNER of a Durham manor house has stepped in to save a wedding reception which had to be cancelled after the venue went bust.

Last week The Journal told how Doris Anderson, of Cheviot Mount, Byker, had been hit by a credit crunch double whammy.

Not only was she was laid off by Findus Foods when it went into administration earlier this month, but also the Springfield Hotel, where her daughter's wedding reception was due to be held, went out of business.

Mrs Anderson, along with her retired husband, Phil, 57, spent pounds 700 booking the Gateshead hotel for their daughter, Lorraine, 34. The ceremony was planned for August this year at Hallgarth Manor, Durham, with the reception at the Springfield.

The family still do not know if they will get any of their money back and they struggled to find an alternative venue at short notice. …
