TAKEAWAY bosses have had their knuckles rapped for staging impromptu raves.

Council licensing chiefs wrote to the owner of Munchies after reading an article in the Chronicle.

We told how the Bigg Market fast food joint was billed the best kebab shop in the world after serving up dance music along with snacks.

A video posted on YouTube showed customers dancing to music while waiting for their kebabs and burgers.

More than 90,000 people watched the film, with 200 leaving comments hailing Munchies as the planet's top takeaway.

But Newcastle City Council bosses were not so impressed. They sent a letter to owner Kemal Guclu reminding him of the shop's licence, which allows it to provide food but not to play music.

Munchies is licensed to provide "late night refreshment" from 11pm to 4am, seven days a week.

But Peter Sweet, head of licensing and environmental protection at Newcastle

City Council, said: "Under the Licensing Act 2003, music other than incidental background music and dancing are regulated activities, and we have advised the owner of Munchies accordingly. …
