Fundraising Fans Cast Rivalries Aside

RIVALRIES will be cast aside when two brave football fans make their way to the derby.

Lifelong Toon fan Gus Lake and Sunderland rival Tony Graham will ignore their differences to raise cash for charity.

The friends plan to walk the 13-mile route from the Stadium of Light to St James's Park before Sunday's clash between Newcastle and Sunderland.

Donning their respective club's colours they will collect cash to raise funds for the NSPCC and Dementia Care.

Last night Gus said he was excited about the trek - and predicted he would round the day off with a Toon victory.

The 52-year-old, from West Denton Park, Newcastle, said: "We were sat around a few weeks before Christmas and we were talking about what happened at the last derby game.

"I made a daft comment that we should walk from the grounds to raise cash and then all of a sudden we've ended up actually doing it. It will be nice to show that we can do something that shows there doesn't have to be bitterness. …
