ANDREI ARSHAVIN and Robbie Keane faced anxious waits today to discover if their multimillion pound transfers to north London are going ahead.

Russian playmaker Arshavin flew into London this morning in a bid to break the deadlock between Arsenal and Zenit St Petersburg over his proposed [pounds sterling]15million switch.

Keane, meanwhile, missed training at Liverpool and headed for the capital after Tottenham increased their offer to [pounds sterling]16m for the club's former striker.

Both players are on stand-by to undergo medicals at short notice should fees and personal terms be agreed.

With heavy snow playing havoc with the transport system u leading to Arsenal's home FA Cup replay with Cardiff tomorrow being postponed u it also emerged that the 5pm deadline for transfers could be extended.

Arsenal have offered [pounds sterling]12m plus [pounds sterling]3m in addons for Arshavin but Zenit have insisted for several days that the entire sum be paid up front.

A source for the London club claimed today, however, that they remain confident a deal can be reached and dismissed reports suggesting Arshavin was already heading back to St Petersburg.

Should Zenit accept Arsenal's offer, personal terms will then be discussed and as Standard Sport revealed last week, the 27-year-old is prepared to take a pay cut to seal a move to Emirates Stadium.

He earns [pounds sterling]100,000-a-week at Zenit but it is believed he will accept a weekly wage in the

Arshavin and Keane moves in the balance region of [pounds sterling] 75,000, which could still be in excess of what Arsenal are willing to offer.

Manager Arsene Wenger, who has grown agitated by the protracted negotiations, has warned Arsenal fans not to expect Arshavin to make an immediate impact should he sign. …
