BUY BRITISH AIRWAYS Citigroup sees Europe's third-largest airline, BA, as a buy. It says the firm's December quarter results were in line with expectations and that its [pounds sterling]51 million operating loss was mainly driven by the weak pound. Although January airline traffic was better than expected, Citigroup acknowledges that most of those bookings would have been made last year, and expects sales in future months to be weak. But it expects BA to announce cost restructuring plans and describes the airline as "an industry survivor" that will benefit from other mergers in the sector and "gain from weaker airlines once downturn is over". Today shares in BA slipped 1.7p to 139.3p.

SELL GKN Killik has flagged British car and aircraft parts maker GKN, which last month shed 250 jobs, as a sell. It says that the firm's dependence on the automotive sector has left the company very exposed to the economic downturn. It says it remains negative on the auto sector and does not expect a pick-up for some time. …
