A World of Music; Big Names Set to Grace Tees Festival WORLD FEST 2009

ORGANISERS of one of Teesside's most popular music events have announced a big-name coup.

Reggae mainstay Horace Andy and chart-toppers Aswad will appear at World- Fest09 in Middlesbrough.

They follow in the footsteps of legendary roots acts including the "Cool Ruler" Gregory Isaacs and West African star Beta Simon who played last year.

The world music showcase, which is still taking shape, will be held over two days in Middlesbrough Town Hall and the Arc, Stockton in May.

The first half of this year's headliner, Aswad, cemented a place in the pop hall of fame with 1988 No 1, Don't Turn Around and 1994 hit Shine. However, their career spans back to the heyday of reggae in the 1970s.

And this summer they're lined up to support Madness at their 30th anniversary gig.

Sharing the top billing, Horace Andy has been laying down tracks since the late 1960s.

Introducing himself to a new generation, he collaborated with laid-back Bristol trip-hoppers Massive Attack in the 1990s, perhaps most notably on the track Angel. …
