A DRUG addict caught by police as he was about to supply heroin told a court it was a one off.

John Robert Parkinson was given pounds 5 in change by the fellow-addict pal he was supplying on Norton Road, Middlesbrough, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Parkinson, 27, gave the money back when he saw a plain clothes police officer.

He ran off and tried to discard a plastic "Kinder egg" containing five pounds 5 deals of heroin.

He had pounds 87 cash. He told police he didn't normally sell drugs but was trying to get money for his own habit, said prosecutor Jolyon Perks.

Parkinson, of Sledwick Road, Billingham, admitted possessing the Class A drug with intent to supply. He had no previous drugs convictions.

Nigel Soppitt, defending, said: "His worry is he doesn't want to be tagged as a drug dealer.

He's a million miles away from that.

"He's a lad who was to supply on this occasion to a like-minded addict. …
