DURHAM have secured the services of Australian one-day and Twenty20 opening batsman David Warner as their overseas player for this summer's Twenty20 Cup.

Warner, 22, was the first Australian player to debut for his country without any first-class experience since 1877 and demonstrated his quality, hitting a 43-ball 89 when Australia played South Africa in a Twenty20 international in January.

With an average of 64.6 after eight one-day games for New South Wales, the left-hander is already renowned for his ability to "switch-hit".

Warner is contracted to play for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, alongside Durham and England's Paul Collingwood.

He arrives at the Riverside once his IPL commitments finish in late May and stay at Chester-le-Street for the duration of the domestic Twenty 20 Cup.

Warner said: "I've heard great things about Durham and I'm delighted to be joining them.

"The team has done well recently, and I want to be able to play a major role in making sure that success continues. …
