JARROW'S title aspirations were severely dented when they were well beaten by second-top New Marske.

It was a game the South Tynesiders needed to win but, after conceding a ninth minute goal to Rob Jones, they were unable to fight their way back.

It was not until the 74th minute, however, that Jones added a second goal.

Five minutes from time, Stephen Hodgson beat goalkeeper Gary Rogers after Jones' 20 yard drive had rebounded from the crossbar.

Jarrow remain seventh top - but are now 16 points behind leaders Newton Aycliffe with three games in hand.

After losing their previous match, New Aycliffe bounced back to form with victory over Kirkbymoorside.

Teesside Athletic are in third position despite being held to a draw by Silksworth Community.

Last season, Silksworth finished a poor bottom, but this time around they are fourth from the basement with two more wins than they achieved during the whole of the last campaign.

They have three additional points and still have 10 games to play. …
