AUSTRALIA Day celebrations will bypass Tannum beach this year as the Gladstone Regional Council (GRC) opts for venues at the Gladstone Marina and Agnes Water.

GRC events co-ordinator Simone Alexander said council had decided to rotate events between the marina and Tannum's Millennium Esplanade from year to year.

"This year Australia Day celebrations will be held at the marina and next year at Millennium Esplanade," she said.

However, this idea did not please members of Monday night's Boyne Tannum Arts, Business and Community Association (BTABC).

"What's more Aussie than having something at the beach?" asked GRC councillor and BTABC president Maxine Brushe. "That's the sentiment right across the community."

Association member Ro Koenig said a lot of people would be disappointed that there was nothing organised for the beach.

"A lot of people will go down there expecting something."
