CQUNIVERISTY'S (CQU) Gladstone campus has only offered placements to 66 full-time, on-campus students to begin study in semester one this year.

However, CQU Gladstone campus' marketing coordinator, Sheryle Gherardi, said the low number of placements is due to the university's focus on external and flexible learning.

"The number looks small, but most of our students are mature-aged and study part-time or externally and aren't included in this figure," Ms Gherardi said.

Tannum Sands State High School graduate, Sam Roberts said she is happy not to be completing a tradionally structured degree.

"By studying three subjects a semester, I can get my degree and earn some money as well," she said.

A budding accountant, Sam plans to study a dual degree in accounting and business while also working full-time in sales at a local electrical supply store.

Although it may seem like a lot, Sam said she was excited to take on the workload. …
