CLUB and team first!

Not much to report this week due to the weather washing out many games.

I was pleased after being washed out at Bilambil to arrive at South Tweed to see all three games in progress - seconds, thirds and fourths.

With some interruption, they had all been reduced to 30 overs a side.

On the turf Cudgen chased down 140 after losing their first wicket at 40 runs with James Adams opening the batting.

In thirds, Terranora only just held on with Colts gallantly chasing 175 runs.

A feature of the Colts batting was some of the stroke play of their younger batsman, some as young as 13 and 14.

Which brings me to fourth grade, where Cudgen won batting second and the winning runs were hit by a 13-year-old by the name of Ziebel in just his first season of cricket.

There was only one negative aspect to the whole afternoon - a couple of blokes in seconds and thirds chose not to wear club caps.

One life member I spoke to suggested that: "These players are a captain's nightmare - They never go far in this game. …
