Seniors to juniors

Paul Galea's Mackay Masters and Garry Craig's QR Crocs (Crocks) boast a powerful line-up with Steve Jackson, Dale Shearer, Martin Bella and Kevin Campion strapping on the boots for the weekend.

Under 18 Cutters coach Wayne Thompson is thinking outside the square with regards to training his young charges. He is inviting former players, coaches and officials to talk to the team about the history of Foley Shield, rep teams and pride for the Mackay district.

Meanwhile, the junior league season is set to kick off with a one-day Suncrest carnival on March 14 and the season proper commences on March 28. The junior league grand final is scheduled for September 5 and the numbers and interest in the juniors suggest a big year ahead. There are coaching and league safe courses planned for February and March, with Barry Blanchfield and clubs the contact points.

There is a sign-on tomorrow at Sportspower between 9am and 3pm for Souths, Brothers and Norths. …
