THE success of last Saturday night's Super 14 trial at Gold Park means the city won't have to wait another 12 years to host the Queensland Reds again.

The weekend's trial between Queensland and New South Wales marked 12 years since the Reds last travelled to the Garden City for a trial.

Queensland Rugby Union CEO Ken Freer, however, told The Chronicle yesterday it was unlikely the Darling Downs would have to wait so long to host another game.

While unwilling to officially commit to a timeframe, Freer did not rule out the possibility of the Reds returning within a few years.

He said, however, that the club would need to juggle games between Toowoomba, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.

"The team and everyone from the Reds were delighted at the reception we received and the way the Toowoomba and Darling Downs rugby community got behind it," Freer said.

"As a result we would certainly consider playing another pre-season match in Toowoomba in future. …
