SUE Palmer-Gard likes to get down to the nitty gritty when it comes to Rockhampton's history.

This year Queensland is celebrating its 150th anniversary of separating as a colony from New South Wales, and Sue has found some new and interesting facts about life in Rockhampton from that time."Another point of view" is what she calls her historical findings, and she says it is an exciting hobby of hers.

"There is always new stuff to find," she said.

"I always seem to find different information from what has already been printed from historians, so I like to call my work 'another point of view' because it's the way I see my writings and things."

Beginning with the School of Arts, Sue went on to research Canoona and Rockhampton. .

"I had to find the beginning of the school and the information I got suggested it started before 1864, but everyone reports it was opened then," she said.

"This took me back to Canoona and I found out about the firsts of everything, like the first schools. …
