LNP Medico Ready for Tilt at Rocky; {lsquo}Health, Education, Lack of Resources the Big Issues'

HEALTH issues will be thrust into the spotlight as former local doctor Don Kane steps into the political arena today.

The 67-year-old has lived in the Rockhampton region for 40 years and believes health, education, lack of resources for emergency services and responsible management of the economy are the big issues the Rockhampton electorate faces.

Today Mr Kane will officially announce his Liberal National Party candidacy for the seat in this year's state election. Yesterday he spoke to The Morning Bulletin to outline his campaign and passion for the city.

He said he had what it took to beat Member for Rockhampton Robert Schwarten by "telling the truth and outlining the facts".

"I have a long-term interest in the health sector and have been very disappointed in the way health services in Rockhampton have deteriorated over the last decade," he said.

"This presents me with an opportunity to give service to a community in which my family has lived for over 40 years. …
