Ill-Fitting Bags Pose Back-to-School Problems

STARTING school brings challenges to both parents and students alike.

"School bags and study posture can create a lot of pressure on growing spines" Mary Lou Barham from Barham Chiropractic said.

"Children's spines are changing constantly and abnormal spinal patterns can lead to significant health problems if they are not detected and corrected early.

"I often use the analogy 'as the twig is bent, so grows the tree'.

"Ill-fitted and overloaded school bags can cause significant physical stress.

"Postural stress of this kind can cause health problems such as headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain and arm symptoms.

"These health problems can obviously be avoided or greatly reduced by choosing and fitting the most appropriate school bag for your child.

"Through my profession as a chiropractor I regularly see children with spinal disorders and pain related to carrying school bags. It's upsetting and unnecessary."
