The $90,000 Easy Chem Pro Discrete Analyser, one of only three in the world, is used to measure nutrients in the water and speeds up the sample testing process fivefold.

Mackay Regional Council chemists can now achieve 100 tests an hour compared to 20 an hour when using the aging-flow injection analysers.

Water Services executive manager Jason Devitt said it was great for business.

"It allows us to meet the requirements for better turnaround times," he said.

"Our scientific and analytical services staff conducted over 37,000 tests last year and most of those were for companies which are continually seeking quick results."

Mr Devitt said chemists now had the ability to provide results within 24 hours.

"The equipment, one of only three in the world, also reduced the amount of chemical reagents required when conducting sample tests," he said. …
