CORRIE STEDMAN'S Ballina dress shop was one of about 10 businesses in Wigmore Arcade which were broken into early yesterday morning.

A huge window at her store was smashed, leaving glass all over the floor.

It was the 'fifth or sixth time' thieves have trashed Ms Stedman's shop.

"They also wrecked my till and stole the float, which probably had about $100 in it," she said.

"They went through all the cupboards, but nothing else was stolen.

"I've got insurance for the glass, but it's just a hassle having to get everything fixed."

At least nine other businesses were targeted during the crime spree, which has sparked calls for the Ballina Shire Council to install closed-circuit cameras in the area.

One shopkeeper, who did not want to be named, blamed 'bored youths' for the crimes.

"Nothing has really been stolen from any of the shops, so it's probably just kids being destructive for the sake of it," she said. …
