SUNSHINE Coast resident Robyn Pulman and Aristotle agree on one thing: winning is a habit.

The Greek philosopher once said: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit".

Robyn, an organisational and personal coach, outlined a range of winning habits at an Urban Development Institute of Australia networking function last week, all of them based on effective and respectful communication.

"We do business with people we know, like and trust," the principal of Creating Winning Habits said.

"The basis of that premise is communication and today we are always communicating.

"In a world of MySpace, mobile cameras and video calls, we are always on show whether we are working or not.

"More important than the message we are verbalising is our non-verbal communication - our image, grooming, posture and poise.

"We should be looking to role models whose communication style and image we can emulate.

"How profound is Barack Obama?

"Regardless of what's coming out of his mouth, it is his whole demeanour and his method of delivery that really strikes a chord and draws us to his message. …
