HEROICS with the ball from two of Ipswich's hardened warriors could not ensure the city a fourth straight Webb Shield title.

Veteran all-rounder Michael Sippel was the man given the task of bowling the final over of the match.

With Toowoomba needing four runs to pass Ipswich's total of 254, Sippel conceded a single off his first ball.

He followed it up with four dot balls, meaning Toowoomba needed three to win off the final delivery.

Sippel's final ball was on the money - a yorker just outside off stump.

Ipswich had the luck last year with the weather so it must have been Toowoomba's turn this time.

Toowoomba's Nathan Ciesiolka managed to get an inside edge to the ball, which raced to fine leg for a boundary, taking the home team to 8/256 and a narrow victory.

Sippel's contribution was matched by Mark Sharrad's.

Sharrad bowled his last five overs with what Pioneers captain David Richardson said was a torn hamstring.

"He showed a lot of ticker and bowled us back into the game," Richardson said. …
